Flexible single or double hook long-cast
trace:
This rig is expensive to build. But
it's very flexible and if you are fishing
clean ground from a beach you might
want to try it too. It relies on the
new yellow stronger Smarties from Smartrig
UK. - Ask your tackle shop to start
stocking them as they all only seem
to stock the flimsier orange ones. So
the rig has two of these and you part
crimp them so that they are both (with
a bit of effort ) slideable. You need
to crimp them carefully with some needle
nose pliers - in the centre of the tubing
part - so that there is no hard sharp
edge to cut the line when you slide
them.
The
trace also relies on the Genie sinker
clips with built in bait clip - well
two of them actually - one at the top
and one at the bottom. The top hook
is then clipped up and the bottom hook
clipped down.

I
use Amnesia 30lb because from the Steetley
you don't need to welly it. But it would
probably be better to use heavier Amnesia
if you can find it.
I've
also used 30lb Amnesia for the hook
snoods, because if you do get a decent
fish it's no good having light hook
snoods - you'll lose them in the 40
ft vertical haul (I know from losing
3 decent fish last year). I use the
Gemini snood clips - this means I can
have a baited hook snood waiting, but
more importantly it allows me to switch
to a long single hook snood if I develop
this fond notion that it's going to
make a hap'porth of difference.
